Trekking and Visiting Hill Tribal Sunday Market Tour 3 Days

- The Sunday Market is the most colorful and interesting in Lao Cai Province where peoples from four ethnic groups can be met. They are H’mong, Zao, Zay, Ha Nhi who always wear their best traditional costumes to go to the market.
- The trekking tour is rated at medium level which is designed for almost visitors with average mobi-ability and offers opportunities to contact local peopples, to experience local life for deep understanding of interesting cultures, customs and ways of life.
Picked up by mini van at your address before 7.00am, board the Limousine coach at number 12, Ly Thai To Street and depart at 7.00am heading to Lao Cai. Once getting our of Hanoi’s center, the coach move smoothly along the newly built highway with beautiful scenery of the countryside passing the windows. A simple breakfast box will be deliverred on the bus. There are two breaks along the way before arriving to Lao Cai at 12.00, meet local tour guide and have lunch in a local restaurant.
Leave Lao Cai after lunch for 1 hour and 30 minutes road transfer along the border to China to Muong Hum Valley which is 45km away from Lao Cai City. Check in home-stay in Muong Hum upon arrival and take an hour for refreshing.
The rest about 2 hours of the afternoon is spent for walking to Sin Chai Village of the Ha Nhi ethnic peoples whose population is only 17,535, living in Lao Cai and Lai Chau Provinces in Vietnam’s far north. The walk forms a loop about 6km long, offers spectacular scenery of high lime stone mountain range surrounding the lush valley of Muong Hum as well as chances to contact the Ha Nhi at home and at walk for an unique discovery of local life.

It is Sunday, the important day to locals. Living isolatedly on high mountain side, in remote valleys… hill-tribal peoples from H’mong, Zay, Zao, Ha Nhi… go to the market for shopping, of course, but more important than that, they go to the market for meeting others, for socializing, and for family re-union! Dressing in best colorful traditional costumes of their tribe, peopples add colors to market place and turn it into a kind of local festival.
Some members of the group may wish to wake up early, have a cup of tea and go out at about 6.00 to see peoples along the way to the market at some sections of the trails nearby the market place. Group gather at 07.30 to have breakfast at home-stay and spend the whole morning attending locals at the market place. Local tour guide will lead the group around the market place and then leave the group free to explore the market, meet peoples, talking, taking photo…Back to home-stay at 11.30 for lunch.
Check out and depart at 13.30 for afternoon trekking to explore Den Sang Valley. Follow the paved path from home-stay to cross the stream and then uphill for half an hour to the area of Den Thang Commune, then trek along an earthen path which winds up and down on high elevation of Den Thang Mountain for more than an hour, enjoy great view of Den Sang and Sang Ma Sao Valleys before paying visit to local homes of the Zao peoples. Cross the stream in mid-afternoon to the northern bank and follow a narrow dirt trail uphill for half an hour to a small hamlet of the H’mong in Khu Chu Phin Village, meet hospitable H’mong doing their everyday works before coming down to Lang Moi Village situated near the bottom of Sang Ma Sao Valley. Explore this charming and peaceful village before check in home-stay at about 17.00. Refresh, taking shower and relax before dinner at 19.00. Evening is totally quiet for just relaxing.
Day summary: Morning attending market/ medium trekking 3 – 4 hours/ Breakfast, lunch, dinner included/ ACC: Home-stay.
Breakfast and depart at 8.00am for 6 hours medium trekking. From home-stay, the dirt trail sneaks amongst terraced paddies along the stream for nearly 2 hours through Sang Ma Sao Valley, passing by several hamlets of the White H’mong. Enjoy beautiful scenery as well as pay visiting to some H’mong homes along the way. Reaching to the large hamlet of the H’mong belong to Ki Quan San Village which situated at the northern edge of the valley right at the foot of a imposing mountain range. Walk around the village, pay visiting to the village school and kinter garden before trekking up steep path for an hour to an isolated hamlet on the top of Ma Mu Su mountain, have lunch break here.
Continue trekking after lunch for 2 hours along the large path getting through Ki Quan San Village, pay visiting to houses of the Red Zao people in well-organized hamlet for understanding culture and living way of the Zao which is quite different from that of the H’mong. The trekking ends up at our base in Muong Hum at 2.00pm, picked up for 45km road transfer to Lao Cai City. Take shower and relax at our base before picked up by limousine coach at 5.15pm for the road trip along the highway back to Hanoi. Arriving at number 12, Ly Thai To Street at 10.00pm, trip ends.
Day summary: Medium trekking 6 hours/ Breakfast, lunch included/ 1 hour 15 minutes road transfer to Lao Cai, 5 hours in limousine coach to Hanoi.
